Because different applications expose O-rings to different temperatures, pressures, chemicals, oils, fuels, and mechanical conditions, selecting the appropriate rubber compound is extremely important.
Extruded O-ring cord is a continuous length of elastomeric material with a round cross-section. Instead of being molded into a finished circular O-ring, the cord is supplied in lengths, coils, or rolls. This cord can be cut to required lengths and join to create custom sized O-rings.
This is extremely useful for large diameter or non-standard sizes or when a molded O-ring is not readily available and can eliminate the need for costly dies or tooling. Spliced O-rings are generally intended for static applications and may not be appropriate for every use.
